“Golden Generation” Social-Educational Summer Camp

Problem

In Armenia, given the challenges the country faces, sufficient attention is not paid to the issues of the elderly and the proper organization of their daily activities. They need attention, communication, and care. According to statistics, elderly people, especially those living in rural areas, primarily engage in maintaining their household, cultivating their land, or socializing with neighbors.

Ensuring diverse daily activities is particularly challenging for those living alone. Considering the above, the "MIASIN" Educational, Cultural, Social, and Spiritual-Upbringing Pan-Armenian NGO plans to organize a five-day free camp for 25 socially vulnerable elderly individuals aged 63-79 living in Armenia (including those displaced from Artsakh) in the summer of 2025 for the third time.

Solution

  • The camp will include educational, cultural, psychological, and social activities.
  • Elderly participants will take part in national song and dance, cooking, embroidery, physical exercise, various interactive games, meetings, and medical consultations.
  • Young people will be involved in the organizational process, gaining new professional skills in working with the elderly.
  • Diaspora Armenian youth will strengthen their bond with the homeland and enhance their knowledge of Armenian heritage.

Impact

Experience from previous years has shown that the program has had a significant impact on its beneficiaries. Elderly participants developed new connections and skills, enjoyed engaging activities, and experienced positive emotions, freeing them from everyday worries and monotony.

Young volunteers, through special training sessions, enhanced their leadership skills, learned about online safety, and participated in an interactive psychological seminar on working with the elderly. At the same time, they developed their professional, teamwork, and communication skills.

Goal

  • To provide socio-psychological support to socially vulnerable elderly individuals, ensuring an engaging and meaningful routine that helps them escape their daily struggles.
  • To involve young people (including those from the diaspora) in the program, fostering their professional and personal growth, self-expression, and expertise in working with the elderly. The project also aims to strengthen intergenerational communication and help diaspora Armenian youth deepen their connection with the homeland.
